Default Not Starting

All right today i was at my girlfriends getting ready to leave and i get into my truck and it would not turn over. At first i thought it was the battery but then i relized all my lights stero, ect. came on and would as normal. Then i thought it was my starter, before i call a tow truck to come pick my up i give my uncle, the diesel repair shop owner, a call and he askes me a series of questions, we go through them all and eliminate each one. Then he tells me to put it in neutral and try it then and all of a sudden she was alive again. What would make her not start when she was in park, but decided to start in neutral? And another thing i've been noticing is that when im at low speeds like 25 m.p.h. or lower when i let off of the gas my head lights dim and then when I put on the gas they come back to normal brightness and insight on this?

I'm not sure about how these newer trucks work but the NO START in Park sounds like a neutral switch. As for headlights dimming I suggest checking alt. output with a volt meter.

Yah does kind of sound like the neutral switch, but it could always be one of the hundreds of issues realting to our terrible ignition switches. As for the lights do you have like a custom sound system or extra off road lights or such that cause a higher drain.

I had this same problem at the end of last summer, except for the starting in neutral. It ended up being the starter. The starter, so I think, has a spring in there that will go bad and wont release and thinks the vehicle is still on or in gear. I had to get underneath the passenger side and beat on it with a hammer until it released.I had to get a new starter and believe me the job sucks. But that is what I see as a possiblity.

I wouldn't think it was the starter if it started with no problem in neutral...I would lean more toward the neutral saftey switch myself..I completely by-passed mine when it failed me. I ran a wire from the steering column to the relay. I found the wire that was hot during start and ran that one to the relay. If you need more info pm me
