Default O2 sensor question

Hey folks. Been lurking for a few weeks now. This place is jackpot of information! I have a question I couldn't find though. I have a 96 Blazer with Flow master exhaust and no catalytic converter. This of coarse throws the Check Engine light from the o2 sensor. It's been that way for a long time, so I ignore it. Now, I put K&N cold air intake on it last week end and for some reason that cleared it for a week. During that week of no Check Engine light I realized how much I liked not having it be on! Well, today it's back. So my question is: Is there a way to satisfy the o2 sensor so as the Check Engine light doesn't come on with out having a catalytic converter?

Thanks in Advanced.

Without a tune, no. For a while, it was possible to get an O2 sensor simulator, but it has been a VERY long time since I have seen them available. But depending on your location, it may be illegal to not have a cat. Anywhere in the US for instance.

Thanks for the rapid reply. The previous owner removed the cat and TN will let you drive any damn thing that will roll and somewhat stop. What do you mean with out a "tune"?

Tune == PCM modification

PCM == Powertrain Control Module. Basically the brains of the vehicle. It can be programmed to remove the codes which are being triggered with the absence of the cat.

And just because TN will let you drive it does not mean that you may not get hit for the $5000 federal fine (I think it is still $5000).

Thanks for the info. Even the scary fine info. That doesn't sound like something for the shade tree mechanic.
