Default OBD II in 95 Blazer

Hi everyone,

I am the new owner of a 1995 4dr blazer. I was previously driving a 1985 Pontiac Fiero (My Pride and joy) but unfortunately, was involved in an accident and my car was totaled. Luckily, one of my co-workers was selling their blazer, which I'll be picking up tomorrow. Ive looked into the blazer for a while and I'm excited at the customization possibilities. Glad to be part of what looks like an active community!

Anyway, my first question is rather straight forward. Id like to be able to use my OBDII scan tool with my car. From what Ive read, the 95 does not use the OBDII spec. So my question is, can I swap the ECM from a 96+, which must have OBDII, into a 95? Thanks,

Jase

Short answer is no, you cannot swap a PCM from a '96 for use with your truck. Slightly longer answer is that with time, money, and enough persistence, anything is possible.

First you must determine if your truck is OBD1, OBD1.5, or OBD2. If it has the OBD2 plug under the dash, it could be either OBD1.5 or OBD2.

My 95 Blazer is OBD2. Used my scanner a few times over the last few years.

You'll just have to check it and see.

And you can't go by production date, either. The common wisdom is that only the late 95s are OBD-II - but mine, built in August 1994, has it.
