Default OBD II Drive cycle - how critical?

Just a general question about this test. How critical are the steps. As it reads, this would be quite difficult to perform. Example: if you shop is in town and you walk out, start the "cold" vehicle, idle for 2.5 min (plus or minus how many seconds?) then accelerate to 55 (well now we are in town, have to drive awhile to get to a road where you can go 55 mph). Drive that for three minutes (three miles roughly)(plus or minus mph or seconds?), coast to less that 20 mph (about half a mile), speed back up to 60 and go for five minutes. Total about a ten mile un-interrupted drive from where the rig was parked.

There must be some variation allowed in this test or it would seldom be executed properly.

As far as I understand, this cycle would be done if you wanted to get your inspection done right after a reset. If not it takes a bit of driving for all the tests to be completed.

There is a drive cycle for a CASE re-learn that I would like to do but it starts with a cold engine and have no way to get to a 55 road that fast.

True S.B.
not what I am using it for though. My goal is getting the computer to test all the listed sensors and to find out if mine ever goes into "closed loop".

Guessing you don't have a scan tool? So what's going on. Really bad mileage?
Temp sensors or bad o2 will keep it open. Any codes?

This General Motors Driving Cycle explains each step, and what monitors run during each step. Each individual step must be performed exactly as written or the monitor will not run and complete. You don't need to do the steps in order. You don't need to do all of the steps. If there is one monitor you need to run and complete, perform the appropriate step. If you want to run and complete all monitors, the entire drive cycle must be performed, again, not necessarily in order.

CASE relearn, (Crankshaft Position Sensor relearn as GM calls it) can only be done with a capable scan tool. Initiate the relearn, run her up to 4 grand in neutral and the PCM takes over from there.
