Default Oil gauge readings.

I've recently noticed that the oil gauge of my car changes from low to high at random times.
When im driving and my foot is on the gas its mostly reading at 55(just a bit below the dash line that is between the 40 and 80)
The rest of the time it goes down to 25 mostly when its idling or driving slow in traffic.
I have heard that the sensor can be bad but people in those cases have readings which are way off like above 80. I am wondering if the actual oil pump is bad would I get a check engine light or any sort of noticeable symptom? I wanna know if there is a way to find out if its the sensor or the pump without changing anything because if its the sensor id like to let it be for now.
Thanks

Most auto parts stores rent/loan/sell oil pressure guages. It requires removing the oil pressure sending unit from the engine and installing the guage in its place. Oil pressure should be tested with the engine at normal operating temperature both at idle, and at approximately 2000 rpm. At idle it should be at least 10psi, and approximately 60psi at 2000 rpm. If the pressure rises much above 80psi, there is a risk of the oil filter blowing apart, which will cause all oil to exit the engine very rapidly, causing serious damage to the engine.

Sounds perfectly normal to me.

Good luck getting the oil pressure sensor/sender out....very tight quarters at the base of the distributor. Would likely need to remove the distributor to get to it.

Those oil pressure numbers sound pretty good to me.

That maybe the case or may not have been wired at all. What color are the wires that hook up and where are they at?Also can I remove the sending unit and add a after market guage?
