Oil Level

Oil Level
I decided to check my oil today after installing all my new plugs and I noticed its a good 3/4 of an inch higher then what the max should be on the dipstick. Is this fine? I know on my quads if the oil is too high its not a bad thing nor a good thing. It just gets up into the chamber and burns more oil then it should making for smoky exaust, but at the same time it helps lubricate.

RE: Oil Level
It will cause excessive slinging of the oil, more drag on the engine, and it should eventually burn down some, but it could lead to spark plug fouling.
You could pull the drain plug and screw it back in after a second or two. That's messy, but I'd rather do that than risk fouling the plugs.
Having a high oil level really doesn't help lubricate any more than the proper level.

RE: Oil Level
Alright, thanks Kyle. I really appreciate the promt reply. I think I may just bring it to pep boys since they are having a special deal. $20 for a full oil change...

RE: Oil Level
How did too much oil get in there? I would check the oil for gas and coolant just to make sure that none has leaked in there. The crankshaft splashing into the oilcan turn it into froth (Air/oil mix) and cause low oil pressure.

RE: Oil Level
Well my oil pressure is never below 40 and is usually at about 50-60 at normal driving speeds. How would I tell if there is anything in the oil. On the dipstick its a nice dark brown color. I just think they guys who I bought this from who did a tune up on it didnt really care...

If you had coolant in the oil, it wouldn't be brown, but more a milky tan color. If you had gas in the oil, you should be able to smell it on the dipstick... Get it changed and then keep track of it.

RE: Oil Level
Some people don'tknow that the .5 quart that is not needed. The blazer 4.3 only requires 4.5qts with the smaller filter and some people are to lazy to only put in what is required since the payed for 5qts then it should all be in the crankcase...
What i tend to do when i change my oil on the blazer is to refill it with 4qts run the engine and check for leaks if there are no leaks then i check the dipstick and it will indicate that there would be .5qts low or in the middle of the operating level. So I just leave it and add the other quart when it gets down to the fill line...
