Default Parking brake magically wont work

I'm guessing it may not be magic, but I'm not ruling it out as a suspect just yet.

My parking brake doesn't seem to want to work anymore. I can push on it and it will go down and the parking brake light will come on, but as soon as I take my foot off it comes up again.

I looked at it while someone stepped on it and all the cables seem to be operating correctly that I could tell. I'll be taking a look at it more thoroughly when it warms up a bit, but any suggestions on what I should look for is what I'm needing.

This problem seemed to come up right after I washed it, so I may have dislodged something.

Sounds like whatever locks it down is screwy. Like something dealing with the brake release.

When mine did that, it was the ratcheting mechanism up under the dash that took the big sleep and had to be replaced.

Hmmm. My neighbor is a mechanic and happens to own a Blazer too. So I'll try to see what he thinks of it. I'll definitely check out that ratcheting mechanism too.

Mine crapped out as well. Waiting for the weather to warm up so I can see what caused it to stop locking all the sudden.

I just let the dealer do it. It was under my extended warranty.

Mine hasn't worked since I bought it lol. Neither does my buddies' Blazer. Seems to be a common issue eh? I never use it though, so it's not really a priority for me to fix. I could care less if I have one or not right now.

Lucky you. My driveway is steep, so for now I use two bricks as wheel chocks.

My '99 started doing that recently. Seems like the spring on the brake release handle is getting weak, because when you pull it to release the brakes it doesn't always go all the way back in to its recess in the dashboard, and the next time I step on the pedal it won't stay down unless I push the handle all the way in and make sure it's bottomed out on the dash. Sometimes have to turn it a tiny bit as well, in order to get it to go all the way in.
