Parking brake magically wont work
I swear you better give me a heads up if a head gasket or something major goes lol. My parking brake started not working. My pedal works fine, Its just the shoes don't seem to have enough pressure to keep it from rolling.
Hows about you go change your oil lol. Maybe mine will magically change lol. J/K
Good luck with the brake tho. I'm gonna get mine looked at by my uncle. He owns an alignment and brake shop, so its a given hes doing it lol.

I'll go get my oil lines fixed and you go get the parking brake fixed. We'll meet back here and exchange plans!!
Mines gonna get fixed along with my AC. I have an awful screeching coming from it and the clutch no longer engages. Im gonna grab one from a wrecker and have my uncle do that too lol.
I tried to get my oil lines looked at. I didn't try very hard though...
Local repair shop that I wanted to take it to wasn't open. They may have shut down, which isn't a good sign...
I also took it to the dealership "just in case" they had a reasonable offer. They won't even give me a ballpark quote without having it diagnosed first, which is a $40-100 ten minute look to tell me what I already know...

Had the same issues as the OP. (Parking Brake pedal wouldn't stay down). '98 Blazer.
Following the link posted to a picture of the assembly, I was able to locate the bolts and nut to get it off.
Once off I found that the end of the coil/spring that loosens, thus letting the brake release, was stuck on the plate above it. So instead of resetting itself to the tightened position, it was stuck loosened, which allowed for the pedal to move freely. I was able to free it with a screw driver and it works fantastically again. I'm puzzled as to how it go stuck on something ABOVE it's normal range of motion, but I'm just happy it's fixed.
Thanks and I hope someone else with this issue reads and gets an easy fix as well!

Once again, good job getting to the bottom of this!
This year long problem is now starting to give me grief.
Twice now I've taken apart the panels to try and get the parking brake out. I've taken apart every interior panel that is anywhere near the assembly, but I cant reach one nut.
It's the one labeled "nut" in this picture.

You require a deep socket to be able to reach the nut past the end of the bolt, but I have a cluster of a million wires blocking it. I can shove them just a little, but not enough to fit the socket and wrench past, or to put my hand in to I can find the nut.
I really don't want to have to take this to a shop at $110/hr.

You can see here that the nut is kind of blocked by the plating for the assembly. I had to reach over the plating just to feel if the nut was there, so no way I could get a wrench in there.
Those pics are from a s-10 pickup truck, so I'm thinking there are differences in the panels blocking it and the wiring in front, because the guy with the pics got his out no problem.
