Sometimes have to turn it a tiny bit as well, in order to get it to go all the way in.
Mine sometime does that when it's extremely cold outside. I have to help it make its way back up with my foot.

I'm not to concerned with it at the moment. I guess I'll just avoid parking on hills at all costs. I'm 91.8% sure that its that ratcheting mechanism that clicks when you have it pushed down. I'll take a look at it in the summer, but as with Alex, it's not really a priority.

Had the same problem. My brake went away one winter day, has never come back. Same some posts about fixing this problem by shooting grease in, or by replacing the mechanism. I'll try to look then up and attach links (and see if there is anything new out there). Seems like a common, simple problem with the rachet.

Here's a link, follow it to the end and you see pictures of the rachet mechanism:

My parking brake doesn't hold when I step on it either, so the other end needs work too.

Perfect. My buddy has a spare assembly. Time to swap mine out.

Smile Hey in NJ!

How did the rachet swap go? I have still yet to do mine. Was the old one buggered. I read that somtimes some part is just bent or needs cleaning. Otherwise needs replacement. I can step on my brake, but it doesn't hold the truck still, so I need to look at the cable and/or brake shoes or adjustment too.

I'm still waiting on the weather to agree with me so I can take a look at it. It's supposed to snow the next 2 days.

I'll put the solution on here when I do finally get around to it.

We got the snow too;-)
Did you buy the part already, or just going to take things apart first?

I think I'll start by just popping off the bottom dash panel, taking a look and working from there.

when you look at it imagine what is going on there-I've had a few of these, that once I realized what it was( and wasn't) doing, you could see what wasn't happening and I was able be bend what wasn't meshing together and make it work!(how is that for a run-on sentence!)....anyway I think you get the point I'm trying to get across! Good luck-maybe you won't need another one at all. Jerry

I swear you better give me a heads up if a head gasket or something major goes lol. My parking brake started not working. My pedal works fine, Its just the shoes don't seem to have enough pressure to keep it from rolling.

Hows about you go change your oil lol. Maybe mine will magically change lol. J/K

Good luck with the brake tho. I'm gonna get mine looked at by my uncle. He owns an alignment and brake shop, so its a given hes doing it lol.
