Default Passlock II defeat

Normal 0 I recently bought my neighbors’ 2000 Blazer LT and really like it. Only 53,000 miles and in great shape. Put on new tires and it drives much better. Recently the ‘Security’ light came on while driving so I read up on it, including the Service Manual diagnostic and repair procedures. Last week the ‘Security’ system inhibited starting for 10 minutes after pumping gas. Now when this Blazer was new, at a cost of $32,000+ the security system had great value. But as a 9+ year old with barely 1/10 the value, this ‘lock-out’ inconvenience greatly exceeds the value of it’s anti-theft benefit. So I’d like to defeat the ‘Passlock II’ feature rather than replace the electronic Passlock II ignition switch. Reading various forums and ads for remote starter, it seems a remote start interface module would fit the bill albeit at close to $50-$100. But the possibility of substituting a resistor to feed the BCM its desired value would be easier and cost almost nothing. I know how to do this but would like to hear whether anyone has actually done it successfully (without confusing the BCM and inhibiting starting forever). Thanks for your advice.

Replace the ignition switch and leave the system functional. There is no easy way to defeat the system without putting in aftermarket equipment. A resistor cannot be used because the ignition switch sends a pulsed signal to the PCM as you insert your key. But by all means try what you think is best. What do I know.

Some good info

I'd say just fix it. I considered putting in a rem. start bypass wired to a somewhat hidden switch so that instead of always being bypassed so that I would only bypass it when the system was tripped. However, considering the installation time to do that vs replacing the faulty wiring, it made more sense just to go for the replacement.

How pissed would you be if you bypassed it to prevent a few no starts for 10 min, and a few weeks later you were the proud owner of a stolen vehicle? [&o]

I have a DEI passlock 1/2 bypass for sale if your interested. I used it with my alarm and remote start not sure if you can use it stand alone.

Depends which one you have. Do you have the 556uw that uses the key, or an XK/PK series that learns the codes?

so no key needed. I think the LW does still need the signal from the brain though to activate.

Edit: Alright checked with some people, word is that it would be real tricky to wire up without a rem. start brain. It could be done, but youd have to think through it and come up with some way to send a signal to the bypass only with your key in..
