Default plastic cover under front end needed?

that big plastic cover under the front of the truck that has the oil filter access door, does it really do anything regarding air flow through the radiator? mine was off and i noticed it said on the oil filter door "must be closed for engine cooling" do i put the thing back on. if its really not needed i'll remove it and have better access to the oil filter but if it indeed make alot of difference in engine cooling i'll let it be. going to be pulling a box trailer next weekend and dont want to be concerned about overheating.

I suspect that its more important now in the august heat then the rest of the year so I'd put it on. I noticed mines warped and doesn't close tight all the way around and I do have a temp issue when riding in traffic when its hot. I need to figure a way to seal it up better I guess. Just really waiting on November and cooler temps....

The lower air dam doesn't direct air through the radiator. But it does keep air from pressurizing the engine compartment behind the radiator which would restrict airflow through the rad.

o.k. good to know. its not too bad to remove the whole thing for oil filter changes and steering linkage greaseing. might keep some of the snow out of there in the winter as well.
