Pulling the rear axles--Any recommendations?
Hi,
I plan on doing some work on the rear brakes of my '99 4-door Blazer sometime this fall. From what I can see, I have no dust shield on at least one of the rear wheels, and the other isn't far behind in rotting off. I'd like to fix that.
As I cannot seem to find a two-piece dust shield for the rear rotors, it looks as if I will have to pull both axle shafts from the rear diff. If I were to do this, is there anything else that I should do while I have this thing apart? Like replacing axle seals, etc? This truck has only 75K on the odometer. The seals don't leak now, but I don't know what will happen when I slip the shafts out.
I will probably be replacing both rotors, the parking brake hardware/pads, and possibly the calipers (aluminum crap). I have yet to check out the steel brake line. Is there anything else I should consider while I have this apart?

i would do the rear seals for sure, you are already there and they arent expensive. easy to change too. if you change the rotors, do the pads and the calipers as well. since you are already planning the parking brake you will have all new brakes on the back. thats what im doing once i get the rest of my stuff in order to swap out the rear end.
