a guy in town has a 96 blazer and i want the pcm. could i send that pcm off to be tuned and then use it with my 2000 or does the year difference cause compatibility issues?

They are different. I think that the 96 PCM has 5 plugs and the 98+ has 4.

 

so then would that mean that i could use a 98+ pcm if i can find or am i stuck hunting down a pcm for a 2000

 

Go to rockauto.com and look up the ECM for your car.
Click on any of those part # and look at the applications.

Good part is you can get the raw box from any number of vehicles

BAD part is they must be programmed for your vin.

So, if you wish to escape that need, you'd best find an exact dupe of your truck, in years 99 and 00. Something tells me you'd better get the inst cluster, too. Could be wrong there.

 

oh see i am planned on getting the spare that is identical to mine. then have it programmed. i dont necesarily need one. it would just be nice to save a lil money instead of buying a new one or having wait for me program it

 

As long as the ECM is PHYSICALLY the same as yours, you can send it off to your tuner of choice and they can program it however you want. If they do not require your VIN, find another tuner. Though, I don't know of a single tuner that does not require the VIN.

 

i was planning on a wait4me as i read they were pretty good. now i am waiting to hear back from them and i am also trying to find a scanner that i can do the crank relearn with and that dont hurt the wallet too much
