Default quietly dies

i just got my 97 blazer, its my first car and about 2 months after owning it i was driving it at about 15 mph and it quietly died no sputtering no nothing, i stopped and it started right up again just fine. this has happened 2 more times sense then. i noticed sometimes when turn the ignition to run no dash lights or sounds come on for a couple seconds when usually it comes on right away. an when it dosent come on i can try to start it and it will turn over but wont start. my guess is something is wrong with the ignition but i dont know what. any opinions are greatly appreciated thank you!

I don't have an answer..... rather I'm joining in on your question.... I have a 1998 Blazer doing the same thing. It started the same anyway... but has gotten worse. All symptoms exactly as you described, far between happenings. Then, once in a while a clicking under the dashboard would occur at the same time? Now, at times I will turn the key and rather then turning the motor I hear a few quick "clicks" and the dash goes completely dead and resets my clock, radio settings, and trip milage count. Sometimes a couple of key turns in a row...Then all of a sudden, third or fourth key turn everything fires right up without hesitation like nothing was ever wrong? Months can go by without this happening and then *wham* back again. On rare occasions when it does start, the RPM will fluctuate a lot and idle will almost die.... then rev up again, and back down.... for a few seconds before evening out.
Just signed up as a new member here today.... hoping someone here can help you and I? Please help??? Thank you!

You should both use the "search" feature of this forum for ignition switch. I believe their is even a DIY tech article regarding this.

I didn't find as much as I wanted to with the "search" option... but the DIY section is pretty amazing here and I got a lot of info there... Thanks for the help.

Before I run out and by a new Ign switch/wiring and start the replacement project... I have one more question about it.

In most everything I read about bad Ign Switch problems.... an engine light was involved. I don't have a light on at all.... ever.... during or between problematic times with starting/correct idle/dying motor/display off and on reset?

Despite not having the engine light.... almost all my other problems were mentioned as likely results to the IGN switch failure. Should I go ahead with the replacement even without the engine light indicating the problem?

Thanks.... if this seems silly.... I apologize... I'm just very curoius about all this and want to leave no stone unturned. Thank you again.
