If the radiator is suspect, you could pinch the lower hose with hose pinch pliers (or "needle nose" vice grips with a hunk of rubber hose on each jaw), pull the upper hose at the radiator and fill it to see if the water is getting across and comes out the other side.

The biggest weakness of the fill method I described is if the radiator itself is completely clogged, it won't fill the inlet side tank of the radiator or the upper hose.

From the dimensions, I'd guess the radiator is somewhere between 3 and 5 pints, around a half gallon. That's just a WAG, though. I don't see a "radiator only" capacity anywhere.

 

One more thing, if there's blockage anywhere, it might need the heater hose pulled off at the manifold fitting to allow air in the top to fully drain the whole system. That's helpful even if there is no blockage.

 

That sounds like something to try to see if I get more out of it. I'm not really having any problems accept that the air is not cold when stopped. So that's why I thought maybe the radiator was not letting air to the condenser.(correct me if I'm thinking wrong). Thanks

 

The coolant/water in the radiator won't affect the air conditioning.

If the core is blocked to air flow, that could be a problem.

Other things to check:

• Fan clutch. It's highly recommended to change the fan clutch when replacing the water pump. Nobody ever does (including me a lot of times). If the fan isn't turning enough at idle at stop, it won't draw through the condenser
• Fan shroud. Make sure it's there and completely intact. If it's missing, the fan will draw air around the edge of the fan instead of through the radiator and A/C condenser.
• Add an electric fan in front of the A/C condenser to push air through. Wire it in parallel with the A/C compressor clutch, with a relay to control it. Many of the vehicles I've owned come with this from the factory. I usually add it if it wasn't factory installed.

Oh, and obviously, have the AC pressures checked with an actual gauge set. If the AC system isn't properly charged or has issues, that will sometimes be more apparent at idle, vehicle stopped than when running.

 

I replaced the fan clutch a few weeks ago as stated above. The shroud is there and good and the pressure was also checked. Maybe I will get it checked at a different place. I will also check for outside blockage on the fins. Thanks again.

 

ok I pulled the heater hose off and got a lot more coolant out so that helped. I got about 1 3/4 gallons. I am running a cleaning fluid in it for a few days and will see what it looks like. Thanks for the help.
