Radio swap on 2005 Blazer
Does a Radio swap factory Rds to single din on 2005 Blazer require a special harness to keep the chimes. I have read posts here but have been told by Crutchfield employee that no special harness is required. They recommend the metra 70- 2003. Before going through the process of ordering and installing, can anyone confirm this info. I'm replacing the factory RDS double din with a simple JVC single din.
Hello! I just did a swap on my 04 blazer yesterday. Mine was originally a double din radio. I got the JVC KD-X280BT kit from Crutchfield, so the din adapter, wire harness adapter thing, radio, etc. My chimes all work, even with radio off. (E.G. when you have key in ignition and you open the door.) Just match the colors according to the guide and you'll be set.
Hope this helps!

Door chimes are a separate module on yours where they were integrated into the radio head unit on my 1999. You'll only need an additional module if you have steering wheel controls and want them to work. I know it seems counter intuitive for GM to have made life easier, but in your case, they did. 😁
