I just did the rear brakes on my '01 LS. Are the pads supposed to slide freely on the clips or are they supposed to be pretty much stationary in the caliper boss?

 

you need the pads to slide...not sloppy but freely or they will bind.
you may need to file the pads at the contact points.

 

That is what I figured. The knucklehead at the parts store told me differently. Thanks.

 

I wouldn't. Try cleaning some of our famous NY rust off the mounting brackets then the clips should be a bit better. Also anti-seize the clips.

Also, are your sliders good in the calipers?

 

One of the caliper and calipers boss is brand new with new clips. The other side was cleaned up and anti-seized but one of the clips is a little twisted.

Warthog may be right though. The side with everything new doesn't slide to freely. I am not talking grinder but they looked like they could be cleaned up though. You figure with the better pads, quality control would be better.

 

I was just looking at the painted frames thread. I noticed oldschoolluvr's rear rotors. This is happening to mine but less drastically. I was thinking that the lower part of the rear pad is binding up. Anyone have an idea of what this is about? I haven't filed down my pads yet but think I should soon. This will eventually lead to premature replacement of pads and rotors and even moreso, less stopping power.
