Has anyone done a rear disc brake conversion, and I'm guessing it's pricey, but how pricey?
I recently got new drums but they've been squeaking loader and loader each day. Gonna take them to get checked out but I figured if I'm gonna upgrade, might as well do something that's actually worth it.
I know some of the models were made with 4 disc brakes.

 

98+ came withdisc brakes. From what I read it easiest to just swap the whole rear axel from a 98+ blazer. Basically you just swap rears and every thing else just bolts up and works. Try car-parts.com and you can find complete axels with brakes for under $200 or atleast in my area you can.

 

Yea you can just swap out rear axles, and everything will bolt up to it, then bleed out the system and there you go!!!

 

You'll want to look at the proportioning valve differences.. Calipers require more fluid than drum cylinders.

 

i was just curious (dont know if i'll ever do a drum/disk change but considering it for a future mod) would the rear axle bolt right up to a 94 or would it just be better to convert the brakes themselves?

 

It has been stated that these axles are basically that same thing that is under a Camaro/Firebird, wonder if it would be possible to grab the rear disk stuff off of an 89 or newer car, and simply bolt it onto the blazer.... grab the proportioning valve while you are getting the brake stuff?

 

My friend at work has a Firebird. If I bring a jack one night, I'll do a quick swap. He won't know about it.

 

I think he would figure it out first stomp of the gas LOL!

 

I've been thinking about doing this for a while too, because my drums are really rusty and probably need replacing. I'd rather just replace the entire rear axle assembly along with discs, if I have to do that anyway. The other benefit is that I'll get a newer rear differential. In fact, those of you considering lifting your 4x4s may decide to do this at the same time you lift the rear.
