removing 4x4 on my 01

Default removing 4x4 on my 01

has anyone done this....i saw a post from 06 that a guy tried to do it on a 1st gen. Is anything different? What all is involved?

That is always the first question.

I do believe that you can simply unbolt the front driveshaft and remove the front axle and half shafts.

The question has always been with the wheel bearings and their ability to last without the driveshaft going through them. Since they are all in one peice, I have to think that they would not need the driveshaft to stay together.

I also am not sure how much rigidity the front axle gives to the front frame section. Being that it rides on rubber mounts, it probably does not add a whole lot. And it is not like you are going to be entering the Baya 1000 or anything with it afterwords.

You would then have to let off some tension on the torsion bars to drop the front end down again.
