Default removing the fuel filter on a 99 Blazer

I want to change the fuel filter on my 99 2WD Blazer. I have located it on the inside of the drivers side frame rail. My question is do I need a special tool to remove the front fuel line hookup into the fuel filter. I see how the rear connection seperates but am not sure about the front. Thanks for any help on this topic,Bob

Those nuts can be a b***h to get loose! I ended up taking mine to TWO mechanics. The first one got so frustrated with it, that he gave up, and told me to go elsewhere.

BTW- I think you need a line wrench to do it.

The proper wrench to use is a Flare Nut wrench. I bought a set when I went to change my fuel filter, but the thing was rusted on so bad I ended up taking it to my mechanic. He got frustrated and just cut the line and repaired it.

^^Haha! So it wasn't just my guy. He worked on it for about 30 minutes(on a sweltering day), then came to me, cussing like a sailor, "Dave, get this %^&*ing thing outta here!"

The trick is in soaking the threaded connection for a week or two before attempting to disconnect it. After soaking it, it should not be all that difficult to break loose. And definitely invest in a set of line wrenches prior to tackling this project. Just use a set of regular open wrenches first to get the proper sizes. Both are odd sizes if I remember correctly.

The other side is a quick connect fitting. You can pop this loose with a small screw driver and a bit of time. The "windows" in the black plastic part are where the white plastic clips go. To release the connection, push in both of the white plastic clips at the same time and pull back slightly on the line. It will come loose.

They are odd sized, I used vise grips on one nut and an adjustable wrench on the other and after some penetrating fluid, it did indeed come loose. I've done this twice and both times I soaked my chest in gasoline and cussed about the rustedthreads. The quick connect side is a treat compared to the wrenching side.
