Default Removing spring hanger shackle bolts

I hear so much about how difficult this job is on Blazers or any other vehicle for that matter. Well what I did on my 2001 ZR2 project was make up a pushing device out of a steering wheel puller to push the bolts out. I just took a short section of 2 inch square tubing and cut it on two sides lengthwise down far enough to be able to bend the two sides out and I drilled holes in them to accept 3/8 bolts to attach to the steering wheel puller. It worked pretty good but the square tubing bent and stretched considerably and was not really stout enough for a really tough job. I recommend using some heavier thick wall tubing like part of a receiver hitch or something. I had soaked my bolts in pb blaster for a few days prior. I had to remove the evap canister to gain good access. This setup wouldn't work on the top bolts but they came out ok with just a little hammering and prying and turning. The piece of square tubing just goes on the other side of the hanger over the head of the bolt so as to let the bolt come through. I took the 3/8 bolts and bent the heads at an angle and inserted them in through the holes in the piece of square tubing and through the puller on the other side with nuts and washers. I also used washers on the other end of the bolts so to keep the bolts from pulling right through the holes in the square tubing. This pusher setup was a fairly easy mock up that didn't cost anything and I didn't have to cut or destroy anything to get the bolts out.
out. I'm editing this post to include a picture. Notice in the pictures how deformed the square tubing is from the pressure of pushing the bolt out. It did the job however I recommend using thick wall tubing.

I didn't take any pictures during the process. I can only post a picture of the device I made to push out the bolts. Will edit the thread to include that.
