I really hate dropping the tank to change fuel pumps.
I have read on these forums tons of times that it's easier to just cut an access panel in the cargo area.
Does anyone have either a a template or measurements for cutting the floor in the cargo area of a 2nd gen 4-door blazer?

ANY help would be appreciated

 

I can't help with the hole cutting, but I'm somewhat of an expert at dropping the fuel tank.

The trick is to use the fuel pump to drain the tank, then it's so mucg easier to drop. Most of the time, even if the pump won't make enough pressure to run the truck, it will still pump fuel. There is a connector under the hood you jumper to +12v, and it runs the pump. 98+ might be in a different spot, but I've read that it's possible on those as well.

Either connect a hose to the fuel filter fitting, or directly to the pressure fitting of the pump. Run it till its dry, then it's super easy to drop the tank.

Once you get good, you can change a fuel pump in right at an hour

 

That would be easier i guess ,but, then you have a big fing hole in your floor, then what ,do you hingee it ,fold it, how do you keep it closed, what about water, pluss how do you get a nice cut with out throwing sparks everywhere,? If the tank was dropped and hole cut then seems like a better option than just trying not to do it in the first place just did mine last week 2000zr2 took about 2 hrs in the freezing cold so not too bad but no I don't have a clue it's in the center of the tank so just measure underneath and you should be close enough ,good luck

 

On a four door, it's actually at the rear of the tank. I don't think cutting is the right idea, but if he does, might as well know where it's at lol

 

The tank is easy enough to drop... please dont hack up your truck and risk your safety just to (possibly)save 10 mins on a 2 hour job.

So I have not had my fuel pump go out but I'm dreading having to do it. As such I've looked into avoiding having to drop the tank. However, with the hint of using the old pump to help drain the tank before dropping it, I am inclined to go that route.

However, I did save this thread as an example of how to access the pump from the top.
