rpm
like it was stated, depends on tire size/gear ratio, but that seems rather high to me, mine in overdrive at 55 mph is only about 1,600 rpm in 3rd its somewhere around 2,100 rpm thats with 3.42 gears and 235-70-15 tires. maybe youve lost overdrive?
i have 235-75-15 i dont know the gear rotio what ever came in it stock the tranny was rebuilt at one time so i wouldn't think the od would be out but something to check out.
You can check the torque converter by gently pressing the brake pedal - just enough to make the brake lights come on - and see if your rpm increases about 200 - 300 rpm. If it does, then the converter is locking up properly, and overdrive is working. The torque won't lock up if it's failed, obviously, nor will it work if the tranny isn't going into overdrive either.
