I took the blazer to autozone because the lite is on they didn't give a code # but the paper said defective or loose fuel cap which i changed, it also says evap canister or hose cracked-not connected, purge or vent solenoid defective or vacuum leak at engine. Where is the evap canister located? Or where is the purge or vent solenoid and how hard is it to change? does vacuum leak at engine mean any vacuum lines or is that just pertaining to the evap canister? the blazer is a 99ls series 4dr 4wd thanks , clint

 

Vent solenoid is above your spare tire. Not too difficult to change.

 

Get the code and go from there.

The evap canister is located behind the driver rear tire. Purge solenoid is located on the engine in front of the ICM. Vent solenoid is on the cross member just forward of the spare.

If replacing the gas cap did not cure the problem, then your problem is likely the vent solenoid, but check over all of the EVAP lines first to make sure there is nothing cut or broken.

Not necessarily. I bought the last one I replaced from a local AC Delco retailer.

 

i took the vent solenoid off and i blew through the vent, are you supposed to be able to, as i blew straight through it and air came out the square holes, i also checked the hose, the hose looked good, no cracks and it was connected good. I could not find any vacuum leaks either

 

I am old school myself. Too much stuff added to these cars that in reality doesn't do anything. They put $200 worth of evaporation stuff on a car but every houshold has Lawn mower gas sitting in there Vented tanks sitting in teh garage. That's OK I guess.
In addition to the new cap, put a little graese or vaseline on the rim of the Fill. it will help that cheesey seal they have on the Gas Caps.

 

I think air should pass through ONLY when you put voltage to the two pins.

How did you make out with this? I am trying to find this Vent Solenoid Aftermarket with no luck. Mostly because everyone has a different name for it.

Can't find anything Here (http://www.autopart.com/delco/delco.htm) with that defintion...VENT SOLENOID. Can't even find a ppicture that looks like it.

 

Just gotta look in the right place. It could also be called the purge valve. The FSM calls it the vent solenoid. Parts manufacturers call it whatever they please...

ACDELCO Part # 214633 is the proper part. Be aware that the hose connection may be different. All of the documentation states that a new hose will be needed, but in all of them that I have replaced (6 that I can remember), it has never needed a new hose.
