SES Light Question
Hello to all. First time post, but been looking at the forum for a while. The wife has a 2001 S-10 blazer. Two days ago while driving around town the SES light comes on. After looking up some info on this board, I took the blazer the Advanced Auto Parts where they did a scan. The code came up (P0410...Secondary Air Injection System). So, my question is...is this an easy fix, or is this a take to the dealer fix?? Any help would be great.
The clerk also stated that it could be a gas cap issue. I had already tried that one with no success.
Thanks,
Scott

The code has to do with the AIR pump system, It could be the air pump, relay, valves, vacuum hoses, partially plugged exhaust.
My suggestion would be to clear the code and see if it comes back right away...to see if it is intermittent or always there. Have a look at the air pump and see if you can see any electrical disconnections and trace any vacuum hoses back to the source to check for broken, cracked or kinked vacuum hose.

There has been a TSB about water ingestion into the air pump. In cold weather, the water will freeze, locking the air pump up, possibly breaking something. If you have a heated garage, put it in overnight and then start the truck. The water should clear out. You may want to pull the air pump (under the radiator) off and make sure that it is clear of water. I believe there is a revised pickup tube that is better at keeping water away...
I know this thread is older, but I ended up taking the blazer to the dealer. The said that the SES light was 2 different O2 sensors. #1 was $111.22, and #2 was $17.51, all total with labor was $374.95 Anyway, the dealer also said that the Air pump needs to be replaced (at a cost of $650.00 + tax)
Is this fix worth it, or is a simple fix to try and do on my own??? Nothing like paying for an extended warrenty and them telling you that it is not covered because it is "emissions", not power-train. Man I tell ya, they will get ya no matter what!
Thanks,
Scott
