[:@] I'm trying to remove the front differential on a 1999 Blazer 4X4 automatic. I'm about 10 minutes from having it out. My problem is that I can't see how to disconnect the shift cable from the differential. I removed the three 15mm bolts from the cable housing and pulled it back. It only goes back about 3/4" . The service manual says to "insert a screwdriver into the clutch cable housing and disconnect the retainer spring from the clutch cable". The drawing shows a screw driver angling up inside the housing but doesn't really show the spring. I've also found a drawing on the internet of a spring clip holding it on but when I pull it apart, I do not see the spring. Can someone please tell me what the trick is ?

 

Try pulling the cable and then you might be able to see the clip.

 

I finally figured it out. You stick the screw driver in the cable housing as far as you can and then you just rotate it around the circumference of the hole and it magically pops loose. It's just far enough in to where you can't see it but once I figured it out, you don't really need to. It actually came off pretty easily . Maybe this info will save some other poor sap from wasting an hour with a flashlight and getting a turkey neck like I did LOL.
