Shift Linkage Bolt

Default Shift Linkage Bolt

Not really sure if I'm using the correct terminology here but the nut on the end of the shift linkage arm came off and I wanted to know if I can just get a new nut or do I have to replace the whole arm?

This is from a automatic 4x4 '98 Chevy Blazer.

That looks like it might be some kind of clip. Is that stud rivited? You might get it out with an angle grinder then nut and bolt it or clean it up real good and maybe it will snap back in with a C clip on the back.

I think the way its designed you have to get the whole arm , but I'm sure you could take it off and put a bolt with a spacer / washer / and nut on it and make it work .

Yea...that things dead. Take off the bracket and drill that out. then stick in a bolt and put that linkage back on and throw a locknut on it. Fixed.

That was my original plan. Haven't really tried to take off the arm yet but any idea how hard it is to get it off? Do I just ratchet the bolt that holds the arm on? I know moving the arm back and forth changes the gears.

I guess your not using it right now so hit it with PB blast for a couple of days also when you do put a wrench on it try jam a screw driver some place to stop the arm from moving. I worry that the pressure your going to have to apply might break something expensive inside. If it feels like somethings about to break see if you can do it some other way, with it still attached. Maybe cut the stud of with angle grinder and drill it out in place.
