SmartTrak AWD Issues
This forum has helped me on several issues in the past by looking at other peoples problems, but cant find an answer to my question today.
I have a 98 Bravada, almost 120,000 miles. I have had little problem with her but I am having problems in the snow now. The rear wheels will spin and spin, and front wheels wont engage. Sometimes, if you feather the throtle, the 4wd will engage, but its very unpredictable. Took 4 tries to back out of my drive the other morning. The girlfriend is using this for our business and I really need to get some advice on fixing the old girl.

Without putting a full feature scan tool on it and commanding it to engage the front axle, it is very difficult to diagnose these transfer cases.
Typically, a fluid problem will cause the front axle to always be engaged.
About the only thing that can cause what you are experiencing is a worn out clutch pack and you would much rather pay the bill for a used replacement transfer case than even want to know what the clutch pack costs from GM (if you can even get it anymore)!
