smoking fan control on 1996 4.3 blazer
Well, i have been smelling a smokey smell last few times I have used the heater. This am, I was playing with the fan speed **** and wisps of smoke came out on the side of the fan speed control. Seems like it only smokes on the 2nd mark. This control hasn't clicked for a year (after 17 yrs something must have broke!).
Are there resistors behind this dash section plate (area that has temp **** (blue to red), ac-heat selector **** and fan speed control? Do these ***** pull straight off? Does this section pop out after **** removal? Scale of 1 to 10 how difficult to repair? Think the bone yard would stock these? ANY HELP WOULD BE GRATELY APPRECIATED!
Love this forum. have always gotten great advice.

You'll need to pull off the instrument panel bezel(goes from the light switches to the heater controls) so you can get to the screws(7mm) that hold the heater control panel in. From there, you can remove the fan switch and install a replacement.
Mine did much the same a couple years back, the plastic was brittle and had cracked, not holding the contacts together properly.
