i bolted thru exterior and interior panel....used large washers and a single piece of flat steel...1/8"x1"
thats all...been on over a year now...no problems once so ever....check the how to.

 

I didn't use any reinforcement only issue I've come across is my rear quarter panel is dented from forgetting to latch it several times and it swinging out when I drove off. Works great for a ladder to climb onto and off of the roof too
