Squealing brakes
#1
Hey everyone. I have been having problems with loud brakes for a while now. They seem to squeal about 90% of the time I have hit the brakes. But this is very confusing because I have had ALL calipers, pads, rotors, most of the brake lines, master cylinder and the rubber lines replaced since 2 brake failures in one weekend during May 2010 (around 90k, I have almost 103k on it now) that was caused by a partially stuck caliper that eventually wore out the pads and boiled the brake fluid, causing the brake pedal to go to the floor. What could be causing the squeaky brakes? There seems to be alot of pad left and the brakes are not really that hot when I try to put my hand near the rotor after I stop from high speed. They are just barely hot. I had a stuck caliper last summer just after that that almost caused a fire and I could not even be near the wheel and it almost burned my leg when I walked by it, so I assume that there are no stuck calipers here now. I even had a mechanic put the truck on a lift and he made sure that there was nothing stuck and also showed it to me. He said that the wheel would be totally stuck if there was a stuck caliper.

This happened to me in 2003 with a 97 Bravada. I went cheap, and used the cheapest Chinese pads and rotors. After many tries to stop the noise, I had to go and do the job again with quality parts. Not sure if you bought crap like I did or not, but if you did- be prepared to do the job again with quality parts. The Blazer brake system has serious noise issues with cheap Chinese parts. I use Wagner rotors (which are now made in china) and Wagner thermoquiet ceramic pads. Never ever a noise issue with this configuration.
