Default Sunroof defuser question

The sunroof defuser or whatever you call the black thing that pops up when you retract the glass, it has a series of holes in it. You know the piece? Yeah that one. It makes a LOT OF NOISE! What were they thinking?!? So I'm wondering if I can remove it, or at least remove the springs that hold it up. My worry is, if I do this, it may somehow cause the sunroof to leak or malfunction. Any thoughts out there?

at highway speed reach up and fold it down , if you have all the windows up it will likely cause thundering inside the vehicle
Removal will likely effect mileage slightly

The diffuser was put there to reduce wind noise; sounds like something is wrong here.

Can you describe the noise? Is the diffuser vibrating or something? If you just put your hand on it does the noise stop?

It's a whooshing sound, sorta like a running faucet or waterfall sound. I'm sure it's made to sound like that, but it's terribly annoying. At highway speeds with the windows up and sunroof back and the defuser pulled down, yes, there's a slight rumbling noise. But, that's less annoying than the LOUD sssssssshhhhhhh sound the defuser puts up. My driving is 95% 35-50mph, 5% 65-70. So I don't care about highway speeds noise.... I'm concerned with lower speed, which when the defuser is depressed (retracted) there is almost no noise at all.

that thundering noise would drive me nuts LOL
I think on a long higway trip you would regret removing it
I suspect if you look at the hinge ends there is likely a spring that you can unhook so it doesnt pop up

Personally I will never own another vehicle with a sun roof because I hate getting my pumpkin roasted

BTW it kinda goes with your name LOL

If I am outdoors its usually with sunglasses and sitting in a shadey spot

My last car with a sunroof , I blacked out the glass to protect my head
