Default Timken 513061 wheel bearing hub

Hi,

I found the diy article on the wheel bearing hub replacement. Very good!

I called my favorite online parts store, and they said that timken does not spec their wheel bearing hubs for a 1997 blazer, and if you go to anybodys online catalog, you cannot find a timken part for a 97 blazer.

Yet, Timken 513061 is the part listed for a 97 jimmy, or s10.

I don't want to get a "value" hub. I'd like to get a "premium" hub, and was looking for some feedback from anybody with a 97 blazer with Timken 513061 to see if there's been any problems with using this part on my 97 blazer.

Thanks!

513061 is the first design, 513124 is the second design. The difference is with the ABS sensor mounting: the first design has a separate ABS wheel speed sensor. The second design comes with the sensor mounted to the hub assembly. The change was mid year 1996 and the two hubs are NOT interchangable.

3 things determine hub longevity: 1) Quality of the bearing. 2) Wheel alignment within specs. 3) Axle nut is properly torqued.

Thanks Captain Hook,

I bought the correct wheel hub and would finish up tomorrow, BUT I need to get new axle / spindle nuts. All I see online for sale are dorman bags of 5, and only want to buy 2.

My 96 FSM shows to tighten the nut to 181 ft lbs. Do you know if that is still the correct torque?

Thanks.

That is correct. Do yourself a favor though, put antiseize on the splines of the axle shaft, and on the threads before installing the axle nut
