I have a 96 Blazer LT. This week I removed the step bars for sandblasting and powdercoating (Westin step bars). I have a Haynes repair manual but cannot find the torque value for those four bolts that fasten the sidebars (chassis to frame mounting bolts). I guess it is kind of important to have the right torque on these bolts so can somebody help please?

 

You won't find torque values for aftermarket equipement. I would contact the manufacturer of the bars for the proper torque values. Or you could just tighten them down as tight as you can get them by hand with a regular 1/2" rachet and be good. It's not like they are structural components.

 

Thanks for the reply. But the sidesteps are mounted to the cars original bodymounts, and I suppose the bolts should be tightened to the original torque. They are indeed a structural part of the car!

 

Step bars are not structural at all just tighten them as tight as you can get them

 

Well then I guess you should have specified that in your original post then... Chassis and frame are one in the same. Body to frame would have gotten the point across.
