Yes the tranny will downshift fine on it's own when in 3rd (1:1 drive)
The bumper is also attached to the frame...
Good luck with your trip, be sure and let us know how it went.

one more question that i'm confused about.
it is bad when towing that the tranny goes into overdrive? shifting into 3d will keep it cooler?
Also I have autotrac in my Blazer now do I have that engaged or just leave it in 2wd?
Ok that was 2 questions...
Thanks

-Don't tow a trailer at all during the first 500 miles your new vehicle is driven. Your engine, axle or other parts could be damaged
-Then, during the first 500 miles that you tow a trailer, don't drive over 50 mph and don't make starts at full throttle. This helps your engine and other parts of your vehicle wear in at the heavier loads.
-If you have an automatic transmission, you can tow in DRIVE(D). You may want to shift the transmission to third(3) or, if necessary, a lower gear selection if the transmission shifts too often (mech cb note: when a transmission shifts, it generates heat-too much shifting generates a lot of heat and can ruin a transmission-especially since your blazer most likely does not have a transmission cooler).
Then, there's a lot of other towing info in the book. I really recommend you look into your truck manual. If there's any specific questions you have, feel free. I just don't feel like typing up all those pages.
