Default Tranny Rebuild

Well, the noise that sounded like the torque converter in my1999 2wd 4.3 Blazerturned out to BE the torque converter. Fried some of the solenoids and there were 2 handfulls of muck and debris in the bottom of the pan and therefore requiring a full rebuild. I took it to AAMCO because I had used them before and the did a good job. I'm picking it up on Friday with a total bill including tax of $2,103.68. Just curious, does that sound like a reasonable price or did I get screwed?

i just payed $700 for my warenteed rebuilt 4l60e...and i know a guy who does sidework at his house and will be doing the install for 300 plus misc fluids/bolts. if you brought it to a shop id assume it would be higher though.... but yeah over 2g's seems pricey

btw this is on a 1994 k1500 fullsize blazer

If you search the threads you will find the avg price of a GM crate oneis around $1200 w/ warranty.
Rebuilding is cheaper so I would go threw your bill. I think the rebuild is a bit spendy, unless they did use a
GM crate one over rebuilding.

Its always cheaper if you do the R&I yourself.

I would have done the R&I myself but I know it will be at least Summer before I have time to do it. I'm driving the K-5 now and with gas at $2.08 gal it's eating up the savings too. It does come with a 12/12,000 warranty and the did have to replace the TCC solenoid and two others that I wasn't familiar with. New torque converter and they said they use Kevlar, blah blah blah. I don't have the guts to do a tranny rebuild myself. So I guess I'm paying for my fear and laziness.

You can get GM crates with better warranty then that. If they still do it, its been awhile sense I looked into it. They have them up to a 5 yr warranty. Standard 3 yr. So yea, I would say you paid a bit much for a 1 yr rebuild, but as you stated, paid for laziness.

With labor that is not toooo bad. Of course you will always do it cheaper by doing it yourself, but if everyone did it themself, I would not have a job!! Korey.
