Default Tranny or transfer case engaging late when accelerating!

Hey guys I have a 97 2dr 4x4 Blazer and sometimes when I accelerate my truck revs up and then like catches and kicks into gear almost and starts accelerating... is this the transmission or the transfer case? Both need fluid flushes and will be getting that done soon.

sounds like your tranny could be low on fluid, have you checked the fluid lever recently. you are revving and when it builds enough pressure and then takes off

Definitely sounds like the transmission to me.

Great how much does a 4x4 tranny with push button 4wd 97 2 door. Rebuild or replacement cost about? Can I get one for $1000 with labor? Just need a rough estimate!

And isnt it better to get it rebuilt then a used one because you never know what your getting when you buy used and with a rebuilt your replacing all of the gaskets and any bad parts right?

Sounds like the torque converter ($130-$200 and up) unless you're not describing your problem correctly (like, slipping between shifts -> need tranny rebuild).

You have to drop the transfer case and tranny to replace the torque converter. May be best to have a shop do this replacement. If you don't know what you're doing, it's easy to cause a lot of damage (end up cracking your flexplate or something). Haynes has tranny manuals that are probably sufficient for this job, up to you...

It's a good time to have your tranny rebuilt since it'll already be off the truck, but that's a judgment call for you to make. Shops are quick to rip you off on tranny rebuilds because you can't verify they actually did what they say. Find a good shop where you trust the guys. Nothing worse than a shop that won't give you a solid estimate before they start. I hate that sh*t..

$1000 is too low for a proper tranny rebuild, that's for more of a repair job where they just go in and replace a clutch pack or something without doing a true bonified rebuild. It'd be like calling an engine "rebuilt" after replacing one piston ring and putting all the other old parts back in... hardly a rebuild. At least $1500 for a proper rebuild with all new bushings, bands, clutch packs, etc (approx $300 in labor to remove&install the tranny in your vehicle).

If you have the tranny rebuilt, buy a new torque converter. Do not let them put your old torque converter back on no matter what they say!

From GM, a new tranny is probalby to the tune of $2000-$3500 installed. However, it sounds like yours is perfectly fine right now. Just the torque converter at the moment... It still shifts just fine, right?

k guys now this problem isnt happening after some front end work (pitman idler arm, ball joints, cv axles) but now when I accelerate hard i got this horrible clicking sound and when I switch into 4x4 and turn the wheels I get a horrible thumping (kind of like the metal clicking) but much harder/louder almost thumping. And only happens like every 1/4 turn of the wheel it seems but i was going slow when i tested the 4x4 cuz I was nervous plz help guys!
