Default Transfer case Not engaging fuse blows

I have a 97 Jimmy with electronic shift and in town I can shift from 2 Hi to 4 Hi when ever I want no problem. But 3 or 4 times now after driving in 2 Hi for and 1 to 1 1/2 hours when I go to engage 4 Hi the 4 Hi light will flash for about 15 seconds then stop with no shift taken place. Now I have rapped on the transfer case on each occasion and also have found the 4x4 fuse on side of dash blown, I replace the fuse and all will work fine again until I drive for a couple hours again. Now is it actually the encoder sticking/binding blowing the fuse or is it the switch on the dash (which I have read on other post) causing the fuse to blow? Any help would be appreciated, as it put me in a bad spot every time I get out somewhere where I need 4 wheel and it decides it doesn't want to work.
