Default trans slipping

I was on my way to work and was on the highway cruising and my blazer hesitated around 63 MPH then service engine soon came on and I stopped at a garage and had it diagnosed and it said trans slip and had the exact MPH. What's going on and how can I fix it cheaply. Father of 3 and an extremely tight budget.

What year, and how many miles?

You can try a fluid and filter change. You will need to drop the pan.

When i first got my blazer it had a slippy trans. Did a full flush and now its 2x better. But before you go about that the first thing to check is fluid level. Transmissions get very upset when they are low on fluid.

Mine will do this every once in a great while. It was due to a bad radiator that had a leak at the cooler lines. I replaced the radiator and added a cooler. The thing is fine as long as I check the fluid level consistently. It may have a small leak else where but I havent found it but it is fine as long as the fluid is kept after. Im from an old school that says you should never change the fluid in an older trans because the high detergent will only disturb all the junk in the tranny and cause more problems. check the fluid level first with the car in park and the engine running and hot. It is easy to do
