Are the trannies in a 95 s-blazer and a 96 s-blazer the same? Both are 4x4. Is it a dirrect swap?

I think you should be fine. Although I can't remember when they went to a 2 piece case (bellhousing & case separate), but I think that wasn't until '97.

Both of them should be the 4L60E...

As far as I know the 96 has some Astro van tranny in it. Thats what we where told when we bought it. Its had a bit of a slip since day one.
