Transfercase smell??

3 or 4 button switch on the dash? 3 button uses DexronVI ATF, red in color, there is a pump in the case, but no clutch pack. 4 button uses GM Auto-trak II fluid only, blue in color, there is a pump and a clutch pack in the case.

Your transfer case is an NV236, (2 speed selectable / automatic). The exploded view is on pages 50 & 51 of this link: http://www.areds.com/wp-content/uplo...se-CD-Web1.pdf
The Transfer case requires this fluid:

To be quite honest, I just found that pdf online I've got one for the NV233 in my 98 Blazer, but my 04 Blazer has the NV236. I much prefer the NV233 case. Much easier and cheaper to diagnose and repair and it gets better fuel mileage due to less drag in 2WD. I do like the electro vacuum switch on the NV236. No chance of fluid entering the HVAC system, like with the NV231 & NV233 mechanical vacuum switch.

Hi all,
Thanks for the info!
I've changed the oil by the Autotrack II oil, so thats finished!
Thanks for the pdf link, however, I still wonder if the clutchpack gets it lubrication from this oil,( ATII) or is it completely sealed with its own lifetime lubricant?
It's hard to see it's "open or closed".
I also did the Dexron III job!
Greetings, Hank.
