Angry Transmission cooler fitting clip

My Blazer is stuck in the driveway because his transmission cooler line popped out because the clip somehow came out of the fitting. My roommate who is much smaller than I climbed under my truck and put the line back in after we replaced the o'ring. Now he cant get the clip into the fitting. The problem is that the torsion bar and exhaust y pipe are in the way. Do any of know a trick to working around this problem without removing the torsion bar or y pipe?
We are both super frustrated!

put the clip in the fitting before putting the pipe on. the way the end of the tranny line is shaped it will spread the clip out and then once you have pushed it in far enough it will "click" into place.
