Transponder keys?

Transponder keys?
I recently bought a 2002 Blazer LS and I only got one key with it. I have a Chilton's manual ordered for it, so in the mean time I've been researching keys for it. In the process, I learned that some keys are transponders or chipped and would like to know if, in fact, this truck needs one of those types.
Any help would greatly be appreciated, as the guy who sold it to me hasn't a clue either.

Just search Ebay for the specific car's keys you need, and see if the ones that come up are transponder or normal.
I bought transponder keys for my Cadillac on Ebay from a company called Your Keyless Remote. They were easy to program and I just had them cut at Home Depot. They were very cheap too almost to the point that I thought it wasn't going to work. It's like a million percent cheaper than the dealer would charge.

Thanks a lot. I asked that Ebay company about that key and they directed me to the one they offer, but they didn't tell me if it had to be chipped or not. I noticed that all the transponder keys were for mostly cars for that year, but one never knows. Running it on Google pretty much "told" me that the 2002 doesn't need one or should I say, that I can't find evidence supporting it.
Thanks again

Here's how you find out.
Have a key cut from a normal blank. Try it.
- If it works, it works
- If it doesnt work, then hold the original key right next to the ign switch while you try it again
.. if the car starts, THEN have another one cut and hide the original under the steering column trim covers

never seen a blazer/jimmy with a transponder key, a regular key copy should work.

nope no transponder. If you go to a chevy dealer they will cut you a new one for 5 bucks

Keys
Blazers do not have transponder keys, just a normal key cut at Ace Hardware, Home Depot, etc...will work just fine. If the factory keyless remote lock/unlock was installed in the vehicle then a key fob is used to lock/unlock the doors and the rear hatch from a short distance away.
No if you are wanting to find out if your vehicle has the keyless option, you can look at the option codes on the glovebox lid or there is another way but is several steps and will provide those if necessary...just do not want to type them all out if not required too.

Yeah, I have a 3rd party fob for the door locks made by Valet and have been looking into adding another fob to it once I can figure out where it's mounted and if it has the switch thing attached to it. Evidently, as long as that switcher is attached, it can be programmed to accept a new fob.
As for the key, on programyourremote dot com, it states that this model doesn't have one so I ordered one off Ebay. The nearest Chevy dealership to me is at least 80 miles away!
