Default RE: Tune Up = Less mileage..???

ok i finally got a chance to clean the MAF & EGRlast weekusing Gary's HOW TO guide.. now the only problem is i don't know if the mileage went up due to the cleaning or the milder temps outside that we've been getting lately.. it went from -10C's to +10C's in the last week but my mileage went from 280km-290km.. to 320km-330km per full tank.. this still seems low to me.. 65L tank or close to it $75=320km seems like crap to me or is this average..??? anyway i think i've got a front end problem now but i'll put that in a seperate post.. anyone else have any ideas.. only other thought i got is it might be the sliders in the brakes screwing up or something... pads seem to have alot still on them for not having anything to do with em for over a year and a few months.. or is this normal too..??? THX to all

Ronald said it earlier, but once again, please calculate your km/L average. Km per tankfull tells us nothing. We'll justdo the conversion to MPG.

Default RE: Tune Up = Less mileage..???

well the most i can usually squeeze into it is 65L and the gas hand is pretty low then.. i average 63-65 litresper fill up.. filling up until the pump clicks off and i keep squeezing it in until as soon as i try to pump again it clicks off..

so using my rusty math here and google calculators and conversions (copy paste) lol

these trucks have a fuel capacity of 17.5 Gallons

1 litres = 0.264172052 US gallons

17.5 gallons = 66.24 litres

65 litres = 14.3 gallons

1 kilometers = 0.621371192 miles

330 kilometres = 205.062 miles

205.062 divided by 14.3 = 14.34

so putting it all together i'm averaging 14.34 MPG if my calculations are right... does this seem normal..???

EDIT: after doing a little more research into this.. according to this website >>> http://www.johnholt-chevrolet.com/te...p;model=Blazerit's not bad i guess for an 8 year old vehicle to lose 2 MPG after 8 years.. or am i wrong..?? lol

the website rates the vehicle at

EPA fuel economy, city/hwy:

The cold can have a definite affect on the mileage you see. Reformulated fuel for colder climates can have a pretty large affect in mileage. I noticed a drop of 3+ mpg from the winter mix fuel to the now regular mix fuel offered here in NY.

I would say you should monitor it over quite a few tanks as well as from a few stations to see if you can isolate the issue to fuel or to the motor itself.

ok i've finally fixed the mileage issue... first off i drove it after i fixed the problem until empty (almost)... then filled it up again and she took 66.9 litres (real empty lol).. clicked the odometer off and clocked the mileage... and like magic i went from 330km per tank to 430km per tank

1 litres = 0.264172052 US gallons

66.9 litres=17.39 gallons

1 kilometers = 0.621371192 miles

430 kilometres = 267.202 miles

267.202 divided by17.39 = 15.365

so it's still not far off from a brand new2000 Blazerstraight off the lot now... 100km extra per tank is a big increase for me.. espicially considering i was only getting 30km for $10 of gas lol.. (i know $10 isn't much these days)

and now for what the problem was..??? Sticking Calipers and seized sliders.. noticed the other day a grinding noise from the rear drivers side and istantly recognized it as a brake pad on on the rotor metal to metal contact.. turns out the caliper was pushed out fully and wouldn't draw itself back in.. a bit of fooling around with a clamp and we go it back in.. front drivers side was sticking too.. and almost all the sliders on the bottom of each caliper (closest to the ground) were seized. Greased em all up (sliders)pushed all the calipers back in, and new pads all around and poof.. an extra 100km per tank

now i just gotta find out where this dropping RPM/funny idleissue is coming from.. my guess is fuel pressure

anyway THX to all and i hope i might've helped some people here save themselves alot of hassle.. THX AGAIN

Sticking breaks can really kill your mileage! Glad you got it figured out!
