U-joints? HELP!
Alright, when I go to take off from a dead stop I get a loud squeaking sound, as the truck begins to gain speed the squeaking gets higher pitched until it stops when I'm rolling at a constant speed.
At a constant speed and hitting a bump, resulting in the suspension to compress I get a squeak.
These make me think the cause is one of my U-joints, now the question is can I grease them?
Do I have to replace them (I'd do both) and how do I go about it.
I crawled under the truck and saw that there were pins holding the "bushings" in that allow the joints to change angle. Do I knock those out somehow (without bending them.)
Any and all help is appreciated...
Thanks. My truck is probably going to stay parked until I fix this problem. I'd be doing the work myself to save money too.

If your u-joints have been replaced, then they are likely grease-able. If they are original, they will likely not have a zerk.
It's only 4 bolts to drop the driveshaft. You should then be able to assess the problem.

Thanks Kyle,
I've also had a brake job done recently at the dealer (wanted Delco parts) and they replaced a part for the parking brake (can't remember which, I'll have to check the bill, I remember them calling me to ask.) I'm curious as to whether that part has worked it's way lose and is now rubbing against something. It's a metal-on metal squeak so that's possible. My father listened to it and isn't convinced it's a U-joint because there's no vibration at highway speeds (60-70mph)
I'll check it all out tonight.

The only thing I can think of as far as the parking brake that would squeak is where the cable runs through the bracket Dr side rear attached to frame I put a piece of Heater hose around it and it is almost rubbed through. As far as the U-joint are you getting any vibration on excel ?
It wasn't vibrating before but yesterday it started. I called the mechanic and an hour or two and $93.00 CAD later I have a new grease-able U-joint, squeak is gone and I have some plastic I'm going to put around that cable, it actually pollished the frame rail where it has been rubbing.
