Default Uncle Buck Muffler Syndrome.

I changed my spark plugs, distributor cap, rotor, wires, and put a new battery in.

After I fired it up the RPM gauge shot to 6, but my foot wasnt on the gas, and then it stabilized back at 550 rpm, but the car started shaking and the muffler started to pop.

I got out to take a look at the muffler and noticed every time it popped liquid was coming out the muffler. It wasn't oil, it was a clear liquid. I'm not sure what needs to be fixed now, but iv'e been told I didn't put the rotor on the first cylinder when I installed it. So im going to go try that today and if I dont have any luck there, hopefully the kind souls on this forum can help give me some direction.

Thanks.

-Nick.

The rotor will only fit one way, otherwise it will not sit on the plate nice and flat. So yes check that, but also be sure you have the plug wires in the correct location. Be advised that the wires go in order on the even side, but not on the odd side....follow the plug wires and note the cylinder # on the cap.

This is of course assuming the distributor style is horizontial and not vertical.

So I may have connected the #1 wire to the #3 cylinder. If this image accurate?

1999 chevrolet blazer firing order for a 4.3 liter v-6 - Fixya

If it is accurate, then I messed up a wire. When I installed my rotor it was pointing at #3 on the cap, do I need to go back and have it point at #1 on the cap?

Thanks.

One more quick question since the thread is still up. I just switched around the wires, and left them the way they were in the secure bracket thingy. Is that ok? Also the wires are touching the brake fluid tank, is that ok or do I need to rearrange the wires completely?

Good to hear you fixed it.

Wires are fine in the bracket as long as they are not stretched or anything.

As far as touching the brake fluid tank; better if they were not. This is likely to cause a wear spot in the wire and then arcing and then you have to replace it.
