Default Upgrade/swap 2002 BCM for later model?

Here's one to scratch yer hed over:

Is it possible to swap/upgrade the BCM in an '02 Blazer LS (4.3L, 4dr, RKE but no keyfobs, am/fm/cd/aux/no RDS, not BOSE, RAP) to a new/later model/year to add Class2, other options? I'm wishing to gain Class2 data bus to 1) upgrade OEM radio to 2004+ yr (UC6 maybe), 2) mod overhead OAT/compass to newer trip computer w/data, and a few other options available to later model.. Trailblazer, Yukon, Envoy, etc.. Trailblazer replaced the S-10 Blazer, going with a dig. data bus, thats when better(more option) oem radios became available.. swap the blazers oem bcm for one off a later model Trailblazer, Yukon, 1500/2500, Bravada, etc..

Yes, I'm aware that it would have to be programmed/flashed for the '02s VIN and components installed.. another idea would be to try to just -add- it to the Blazer, in parallel, to gain a dig. data bus just for the modules needing Class2 data, and running the lines to the options I'd like to add (even nav system, etc)..

Yeah, sounds like a stupid idea, but it was actually done on a Firebird (or was it a TA), to gain a data bus to run a late model cd/tape player.. which is pretty much what I'm trying to do too. The guy that did his franken-cludge, got a bcm and radio/cd/tape player from a late model camaro (so he had matching bcm/radio vin data), ran a lead from the new bcm to the OBDII socket so the dealer could actually burn the FB's vin in the stapled bcm. Basically, the new bmc is paralleled with the old, but only to the newer components.

Why go thru all this?? why not just get a Kenwood, or equiv single (or double din) radio, w/usb, SD slot.. ?? Well, those look hideous, they beg people to try to steal them, and just do not appeal to me, never have, never will. Neon lights/colors belong on a building, not a radio face. Afaic, the oem look rox!! Hey, if I could figure how to fit something like a 2007 Cobalt radio/cd/xm/RDS HU in the Blazer, I'd do it.. (and yes, I do have one on my bench..)

So, after all that.. is it possible to update/upgrade an "early" bcm for a late model one?

As always, if you're just going to post "its a stupid idea", please dont..

I think that's the way to go, It was good thinkin because you dont have to address any changed components and their physical and electrical fit. Plus real easy to revert to stock.
only one hitch - interface VCM to 2nd BCM.. ????? Sound like a tuner question.

Lol.. guess what. I'm the oldest guy who's likely to respond and I dont think it's stupid.
I built several 2.3L carbed base mustangs into 2.3 EFI Turbos so I get it.
- And at this moment I'm wiring a factory RKE into a Tbird with non rke harness rather than using an aftermarket alarm. Doesnt make sense cause the harness is all different but just because I want to.
You just have it in wrong category.. it's a MOD. So needs to be in 'builds'

First, thanks for the "its not a stupid idea" support.. I've had this in mind for a while.. what my goal was/is to find an oem HU thats got a good RDS display as in the late (2005+) model HU's (with the large volume **** in center), that scrolls artist and title.. but I'll settle for the TB, Bravada, Yukon UC6 style, display window either above or below cd slot.

Whats VCM? is that like Speed Controlled Volume the present HU has?

I found the "Change Temp/Compass to Trip Computer" thread,, pulled my current console (temp/compass), going tomorrow to find an enhanced (trip computer) version at the local parts yard.

As for actual Topic folder, wasnt sure where to put it.. if a Mod can move this to the MOD Topic, that'd be fine with me..

Thanks again
