Am I the only person having trouble using the spring compression tool while trying to replace the door hinge pins on my Blazer? It keeps slipping off the spring before it even begins to compress it. Is there a special trick or am I just tool challenged?

Maybe the problem is it's from Harbor Freight? They were the only local store who sold the thing and I couldn't wait for it to be delivered if purchased on-line.

Nevermind. I think it was just mental fatigue from replacing the water pump and radiator today.

LOL.

I was wondering what was going on as it is a fairly straight forward procedure. I didn't get mine from HF but I can't imagine mine being built any better than yours. Very simple tool designed for a very specific job.

Yep, did my door pin about a week ago, got the tool off of Ebay for about 5 bucks. I have to kind of help the tool inbetween the sping a little (Hammer) and it compressed just fine. the biggest problem I had was finding the stud in the garage over head to put the hook in there to support the door. My garage ceiling (sp) now has about 6 holes in a circle..hahahahahahaha..but I got it and that was with a stud finder.

i just proped my door up on a five gallon bucket with a two by four across the top for pretty much the perfect height. think I would have spared the ceiling damage! oh well. at least now you get to work on the garage ceiling some instead of the blazer for a change...

Sometimes it's a bit tricky but never impossible
