Yes I did put grease into it. My regret is that I did not think to research the type or amount of grease to use on it before reassembly. As such I packed it pretty full of wheel bearing grease.

When I reinstalled the boot it I had no idea how long it had been off. It could have been off for up to 10 months, and through a winter. As such I'm not going to be surprised if I start hearing a clicking noise from that axle someday that tells me that the CV joint has worn out. At that point I expect to replace the axle. However, so far, so good.

Your question prompted me to look at my GM manual to see what it says about this. Unfortunately, it is not very helpful.

"Pack the CV joint boot and the CV joint assembly with the grease supplied in the kit. The amount of grease supplied in this kit has been pre-measured for this application."

If you find a source identifying the type and amount of grease to use, be sure to post it on the forum!

So far the closest answer I can find on the net is someone saying it's about 80 grams...

Yeah a google search of CV Joint Grease lead me to this grease packet that is included in the Dorman CV joint kits.

https://www.autozone.com/greases-and...grease/773_0_0 (3 oz = 85 gm)

Description below. Note MoS2 and is compatible with wheel bearing grease. From the details it would appear 3 oz is the right amount and is similar to high quality, temperature resistant wheel bearing grease with MoS2.

Fortified with anti-wear agent molybdenum disulfide, Dorman's CV joint grease features excellent mechanical stability. It’s compatibility with other grease makes it suitable for use on wheel bearings, ball joints, U-joints, hinged parts, cables, chassis parts and other general automotive applications.

Provides long-lasting lubrication
Highly heat resistant
Packaged in a handy 3 oz pouch, just the right amount for servicing one joint
Also included with Dorman's CV Joint Boots kit

And here is a possibly useful thread. You might get some clues here that will guide you. Any Thoughts on Using Wheel Bearing Grease for a CV Joint? - Expedition Portal

I'll be interested in learning what you figure out about this.

By the sound of it I'm looking for a thinner grade grease that holds well to constant moving parts... I found a high rates heavy duty grease from Petro Canada, vultrex g-124. My only concern is the low temp running temperature of only-20°c... as we get temps as low as -45°c I'm not sure if it'll screw anything up.

Looked a little further they have a synthetic arctic brand that runs from -45°c to 120°c... I'm going to look further into it
