Default Which way should the fuel pump filter sock point to?

im not sure which way the filter sock goes on the bottom of the fuel pump? the original had the ring in the center of the sock and the sock that came with the AC Delco kit has the metal ring off to the side of the filter sock. i cant copy the original cause its different, so which way does it go? i heard rumors that the return line should pump fuel on it...and i heard that it should point towards the float for easy installation... which way should it point?

I've never heard of the strainer/sock needing to be indexed any certain way. When in doubt, install it the way the original was. But, since what you have is different than original, I would just position it whichever way will make installation the easiest. I really can't imagine it matters. The fuel pump is submerged in fuel, anyway, so it shouldn't matter.

Bigdaddy, would you happen to know the part # on that delco kit. I have to do mine on the same truck. Any tricks I should know? Thanks? Jeff.

hi, it was an AC Delco part number EP381...bought it on ebay for 50.00...it came as a kit with strainer , bypass hose with metal clamps to elinminate the pulsator dampner which i did. and o rings, but i used the tabed o ring instead so it stays centered on the tank when putting in the sender. i will have to look up that part number though... the new strainer has the metal ring off to the side unlike my original was centered, so i put the new strainer pointing towards the back bumper but parrell to the float on the drivers side about half inch away from the float. this makes reinstallation easier. also have a vacuum and compressed air handy because as you remove the lock ring you will have to clean the dirt and debris. somw will still fall in the tank so get that cheap orange transfer pump at harbor freight to pump out the dirt from the bottom of tank. and if your lock ring have never been off before it may have thick black paint on it that has to be picked away before turning it....oh and get a new lock ring....ask me any other questions if you have....

Thanks the EP381 is the kit I planed to get glad you could confirm. The kit is a much better deal as the sock alone is like an extra $13. Thanks for the lock ring I would have missed ordering the new one.
Thanks again!
